Christian Funeral Services
Christian funerals in Singapore are typically held over 3 or 5 days.
​
The main features of a Christian funeral are prayers, hymns, sermons and eulogies.
​
Christians believe that death is the beginning of "eternal life" and that the departed has returned to be with their Father in heaven. Therefore, a Christian funeral tends to be one of celebration rather than sorrow.
​
A Christian funeral begins with a wake at a funeral parlour where family and friends will visit the bereaved. A memorial service is then held the evening prior to the funeral, a pastor from the departed's church will typically lead the service where hymns are sung and the pastor will give a sermon. This is followed by eulogies by close friends and family.
​
On the day of the funeral, pastors or ministers are often present provide emotional and spiritual support through prayer and to give succour to the bereaved. They will also conduct a funeral service at the crematorium.
​
Due to the scarcity of land in Singapore, most Christians choose cremation although some still prefer burial.
​
After cremation, the ashes are then interred into a columbarium.
